FYI for anyone with 415/510 etc area codes who need work done in Tuolumne County. Get a Google voice 209 number, otherwise you have the potential to be gouged. Alderson is reputable for doing good work, but... We contacted Alderson for a super simple driveway gate install. The price seemed high, so I asked for an itemized estimate. The associate over the phone said, "Oh, we don't do estimates like that." Alderson had previously installed a much more elaborate & time consuming gate for my parents. My folks shared their estimate with me... It was itemized, and about 2/3 the cost for a job that required TWICE as much labor and a much more expensive product. I asked Alderson again why the estimate was so high and they told me it was because we were far from their office... Even though we're only 3 miles away from my parents' house (albeit on a gravel road, but not out of character for job sites in the mountains). It's OK for a business to pass on a small or inconvenient job. But be up front about it. And businesses shouldn't assume that the phone number you're calling from represents where you're from or that it decides what you're supposed to pay.
