If you are thinking of engaging Northgate Readymix or your contractor uses them as the concrete supplier think twice… I’ve done two projects recently costing over $200,000 in concrete work. On my jobs, there were clear instructions as to the protocol for the trucks to enter the property and get to the site where the concrete pump was located. I was all too aware that the cement trucks would destroy the asphalt driveway of my property given the type of soil under the asphalt.. This did occur, but once again it was expected. What wasn’t expected w Was a couple of the drivers were not provided the protocol for delivering the concrete which was to back down the driveway to where the pump was located. Instead they took it upon themselves to pull in straight and then back into a separate concrete driveway that goes to a barn on my property… This driveway could in no Way Support 60+ thousand pounds… They crushed the concrete in this driveway. Even after the supervisor of drivers came out and saw what had happened and admitted that a mistake was made, management of Northgate Readymix is saying they’re not liable. Basically they could drive through your house according to them and they would not be liable. The damage was estimated by my contractor to be in excess of $20,000… He offered them the option to have them just provide the Concrete and he would take care of fixing the driveway. Instead they opted to just say they were not responsible And not engage in a win-win Agreement even after they had admitted fault. Having spent over 30 years in the corporate world, including as C-level executive, I am all too familiar with this tactic of avoiding liability and just hoping that the other party won’t pursue you. I had planned on doing an additional $150,000 worth of concrete work but now I really do not want to provide any further monies to this company that has grown significantly through acquisition yet they have not invested in having a common system that provides directions to their drivers as to the protocol for delivering Concrete to a site. If you’re thinking of using this company, be sure you get in writing very clearly what they are not responsible for otherwise they’ll just claim they’re not responsible for anything
