TECH Clean California was a statewide incentive program providing up to $3,000 for heat pump HVAC and heat pump water heater installations. The program aimed to accelerate building decarbonization across California. As of late 2025, ALL incentive budgets — single-family, multifamily, and commercial — are fully reserved with no new reservations being accepted. While TECH Clean California is no longer available for new projects, SMUD and PG&E utility rebates remain active with comparable or better incentives.

Is TECH Clean California still available?+

No. All TECH Clean California incentives are fully reserved as of late 2025. No new reservations are being accepted for single-family, multifamily, or commercial projects. The funding has been exhausted.

What replaced TECH Clean California?+

While there's no direct replacement, utility rebates (SMUD and PG&E) remain active with comparable or better amounts. SMUD offers $3,000 for heat pump HVAC + $4,000 for HPWH. PG&E offers $2,500 HVAC + $3,200 HPWH. These don't require the TECH Clean reservation process.

I had a TECH Clean reservation. Is it still valid?+

If you received a reservation before the program closed, check your reservation status at techcleanca.com. Existing valid reservations should still be honored if you complete the project within the reservation timeframe.

Can TECH Clean California come back?+

It's possible if additional CPUC funding is allocated, but unlikely in the near term as the budget has been fully expended. Focus on currently available SMUD, PG&E, and state programs instead.
