I’m just going to lay out the facts about an experience I had with Carmel Glass - Tuesday: Called CG to confirm how thick the glass used for photo/art frames is. CG confirmed glass is 3/32” (aka 2mm). With this information, I, a woodworker building frames for a high-end client, build frames to that scale. Thursday: I drop off one of the frames in the morning to have glass cut-to-fit. CG says to come back at 3PM to pick up frames. I came at 4 just to give some buffer and they weren’t done. They charged me $110. I took the frames back to the shop only to find that CG used glass that was too thick, not the glass originally specified. Glass didn’t fit the frames as a result. By now CG had closed. Client was flying back home with frames the next morning (Friday) but CG was unavailable to remedy this issue until Monday. Client upset and flies back with their giant empty suitcase that was supposed to be full of these frames. Monday (today): I go to CG to get glass issue resolved. Nobody there. I call CG, they said they’ll return in the afternoon and to meet them at 3. I show up at 3:05, not there. 3:20 passes, I call, they say they’re ten minutes away. They arrive 20 minutes later. They give me the correct glass, glass fits. I ask what I could’ve done to prevent this issue from happening again. They ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and chuckle it off (again, I have an upset client, please don’t just LOL this away). I ask if they can at least refund me the difference between the thicker glass they charged me for and the thinner glass they ended up using. They said no, they “charge the same price for all glass” …OK. I explain the cascade of issues that arose as a result of screwing up the glass size and asked if they’re at least apologetic or able to recognize they messed up. CG’s reply was no, it was just a misunderstanding. I asked how it could be a misunderstanding if I gave you the frame the glass needed to fit inside of and was given glass that didn’t fit. They conceded and simply said “we’re sorry if the glass didn’t fit”. …OK. Anyway. CG will gladly take your money, but if they mess up in any way whatsoever, not only will they shrug it off like it’s no big deal, they’ll keep every penny, yank your schedule around like it’s only their’s that matters, and at the end of the whole process, blame you for their problems. Sounds like the kind of company that doesn’t need anymore of my business. I feel a little betrayed too. I’ve been using them for glass for nearly… 2015… math… 8 years? You wouldn’t guess that by the way they reward loyalty. I guess I’ll ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and LOL it off too.
