Write a ReviewElijah delivered 4 yards of mulch this morning and I'd like to recognize him for doing a great job. He arrived on time and unloaded the mulch squarely in the middle of the tarp I had put down. It was impressive, he knows what he's doing.
Beautiful collection of all sorts of stones and landscapes necessities. Love the price and how you can hand pick the ones you want!
Disappointed with Product Quality and Service We purchased and installed 41 cubic yards of 3/4" drain rock crushed aggregate from American Soil in January and February 2025 for a backyard landscaping project. The goal was to replace our lawn with a low-water, low-maintenance garden. This was designed for foot traffice only - no vehicle use. Unfortunately, after just a few months, roughly 20% of the aggregate began turning white and disintegrating into powder. At first, it was only a few rocks, so we didn’t think much of it. But the issue kept spreading. The resulting powder defeats the purpose of using drain rock entirely, as it compromises drainage and longevity (see photos - green circles are various stages of aggregate turning white and then into powder). We contacted the company and emailed photos documenting the problem. They refused to take responsibility or offer any resolution. We're now considering small claims court to recover part of the cost. Additionally, there was a serious issue with the delivered volume. Our engineer calculated that 24 cubic yards would be sufficient for a 4" layer. Yet we ended up needing 41 cubic yards—and even then, some areas had less than 3" of coverage. That’s a discrepancy of 17 cubic yards, with no clear explanation! While American Soil’s prices and delivery fees may be among the lowest in the Bay Area, this experience has shown us why: substandard materials and questionable volume practices. We're extremely disappointed and will not be purchasing from them again. 6/17/2025 response to American Soil & Stone reply: I talked to my engineer about American Soil & Stone's response to my earlier review. He said drain rock should not decompose into powder (basically soil) and eventually clog up drains. He also stands by his volume calculations.
