I wanted to restore my aging and very worn Terrazzo front steps. As luck would have it, I received a marketing flyer in my mailbox from SurfaceTec. I emailed several photos of the stairs, mosaic tile landing, and stone threshold, and within a couple days I had a detailed estimate. I was happy with the price quoted so we went ahead and signed the contract and scheduled. The results were fantastic! Our rough and bumpy steps were honed down to a smooth, almost reflective finish. The mosaic tiles were polished and re-grouted. All the surfaces were sealed and seams were caulked. Our front steps look brand new. I would recommend Evan and SurfaceTec to anyone.

Surface Tec replaced four terrazzo steps on the entry way staircase and then refinished and sealed the the entire staircase.. Their work was excellent and they were a pleasure to work with. Evan, the boss, was easy to communicate with, their price was competitive and the folks who did the work not only did a fine job but also cleaned their work area at the end of the day. We definitely would be happy to work with them in future.

The repair and rejuvenation job that Evan Filippi, of Surface Tec Inc., and his expert team did on my family’s 109 year old cracking terrazzo stairs is breathtaking and the best terrazzo repair work I’ve ever witnessed. During the 60’s through the 1990’s, our family has was fortunate to have utilized some wonderful original old Italian terrazzo companies in San Francisco, for ongoing occasional patch- restoration repairs, that slowly but surely, became unavailable, as these great masters of their trade, retired or closed their doors permanently. Unfortunately after that time period we sadly could only find unqualified hacks portraying themselves as expert terrazzo repair people/companies. Their repair work was atrocious; the color & aggregate chip size mismatch was unbelievable, because they didn’t even create samples to try to match existing stairs. Instead of doing a few trade-standard grinder passes, using rough to finer sander grit, in a few separate passes, this one repair company (Rainbow Terrazzo Co.) just left my stair finish rough textured. The crack kept coming back. They tried to fix it three times until I came to my senses and demanded my money back. They tried to hide the damage they did to the existing surrounding steps by covering all four sides of my 15+ steps with mismatched silicone sealant, that I didn’t ask for. Sure enough, when I made them remove the sealant, the damage to the adjacent stairs was evident. I looked long and hard to find Surface Tec Inc. and don’t know how I missed finding them sooner. I left a message and he replied quickly. I could tell from my initial telecom with Evan, that he ran a professional terrazzo company and understood the proper restoration techniques, to get the job done correctly and as best as possible. He got me a bid proposal quickly and his price was fair, he and his team always showed up on time, they left the job site cleaner than they found it every day, and Evan spent the time to prepare a few color square samples, to get the best match possible with my historic stairs, until I selected what I felt was the best match available for my stair restoration. Surface Tec sanded starting the necessary stages of grinding with about a 40 grit sand paper and ended with about a 200 grit, to leave my new step smooth. I am also happy that I had Surface Tech Inc. clean & seal all the stairs, as an extra service. Although they’re old and have various “battle scars” and aren’t all the exact same in color and appearance, like a new install, they have a ‘been loved’ charm to them and look beautiful once again. Did I forget to mention that Evan is a second generation terrazzo worker! He gives a 1 year warranty on all work performed! I was thrilled that he works on small jobs like mine, as well as his new commercial big jobs. Thank you Evan and team. You are one the few true incredible craftsmen around the Bay Area, with the artistry, eye for detail and knowledge, to perfect terrazzo installations.
